Capital of Macedonia and the second-large city of Greece was based by tsar Kassandrom in 315 year BC. Cassandras named it after his wife, the sister of Alexander the Great - Thessaloniki.
Today Tessaloniki is the main cultural and economic center of northern part of the country, with the population over 1 million people. You are welcome to get acquaintaned with majestic architectural monuments of the Roman and Byzantian epoch: the temple of the patron of the city - the Saint Dimitri, constructed in a basilic style with rare mosaic and hallows of Saint Dimitri; a part of the remained fortifications; the Rotunda with the remarkable mosaic cloths; the arch of Roman emperor Galerija and variety of the Byzantian temples with exclusively beautiful frescos and a mosaic; an archaeological museum with an exposition of treasures of a tomb of the tsar of Macedonia Phillip II, father Alexander the Great. Modern Tessaloniki is wide streets, parks, the areas shops, shopping centers. Life in a city never stops: discos, bars, restaurants, taverns work day and night so you always have time to do some shopping.
